In 7 years running of this tournament, we have cumulatively donated $144,000 to various local charities. On December 19, 1999, our friend Glen Scott, an engineer with Fletcher Challenge Resources and former Oilympic Hockey Tournament first overall draft pick, was diagnosed with Necrotizing Facilitis (Flesh Eating Disease). This resulted in both of his legs being amputated above the knee, along with a number of other complications. Therefore, this year the proceeds of the Oilympic Hockey Tournament were used to both assist Glen and his family and to fund the research and treatment of Necrotizing Facilitis at the Foothills Hospital (through the Calgary Heath Trust).
With the success of this year’s Oilympic Break – cup, we were able to donate $30,000. The Oilympic committee would like to offer our gratitude to the participants and sponsors that help in making this tournament a success year after year.
